轮辋收缩坑是一个简陋的锻造厂，铁匠用它来加热膨胀铁胎，然后再将其安装到木制马车轮上。安装完成后，铁胎用水淬火，使其收缩并与车轮紧密贴合。轮辋收缩坑标志着北澳大利亚铁路从松溪延伸至凯瑟琳河北岸后，埃蒙加兰镇得以发展。
